About Us

Tucked away in the embrace of ancient oaks, Three Oaks Equine Reproductive Facility provides the care, knowledge and skill to perpetuate bloodlines, breeds and athletic attributes and offers options to horse owners facing decisions about continuing the legacy of beloved equine friends.

The genesis of this special place was the shared vision of Veterinarian Liz Yelvington Steele and equine professional Amy Watters after Rock Star, their first embryo transfer foal, was born.

Facility

The 11,000-square-foot Three Oaks Equine Reproductive Facility opened in February 2009 in an oak hammock on State Road 64 just outside Wauchula.

The custom-built, hurricane proof facility includes indoor workspace for embryo transfer activities, a special laboratory and 20 oversized stalls with special mattress systems for comfort and sanitation. Safety and security are provided by staff who is onsite 24/7 and a video monitoring system.

Recipient Mares

Three Oaks Equine Reproductive Facility is proud of its herd of recipient mares, many of which once were destined for a bleak fate. To insure quality, the herd is small and currently numbers 25 mares, but the facility has the capacity for 50 to 60 mares in the future. The previous owners of many of the herd’s mares were unable to care for them any longer for various reasons and wanted a good home for their horses. Some mares had injuries or illnesses and were treated by Dr. Liz Yelvington Steele to restore soundness. Some were rescued after they were abandoned in dire conditions.

Today, Three Oaks is a sanctuary for them. The mares roam on 500 acres of quality grass pasture, their well being monitored and assured by the facility’s staff.
